Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET drink bottle) Facts:
• Americans throw away 30 billion water bottles each year. That’s enough to circle the
  earth 150 times!
• Four out of five empty water bottles end up in landfills.

• Bottled water from France must travel 5,000 miles by ship before it reaches the US.
• By the time it gets to our mouths, 2 oz. of oil have already been used and that doesn’t
include the process of making the plastic.

• 11% of household waste is plastic, 40% of which if plastic bottles.
•
Recycling a single plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60W bulb for
  up to six hours.
• Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles an hour.
• By using plastic in packaging, American product manufacturers save enough energy
each year to power a city of 1 million homes for 3 years.
• Product packaging accounts for 1/3 of our trash.
• If every American household recycled just one out of every ten HDPE bottles they
used, we’d keep 200 million pounds of the plastic out of landfills every year.

 Did You Know…
• Every Sunday, Americans throw away 90 percent of recyclable newspapers.
  This wastes 500,000 trees!
• It takes 40 years for a 24ft foot tree to grow.
• Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill
space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water!
• Americans use over 67 million tons of paper per year, or about 580 pounds per person.
• Every day American businesses generate enough paper to circle the earth 20 times!
• One tree can filter up to 60 pounds of pollutants from the air each year.
•
In a lifetime, the average American will throw away 600 times his or her adult weight in
  garbage
• Each person generates about 4.5 pounds of waste per day.
• 100,000 marine mammals die each year from eating or becoming entangled in plastic
  debris.
